TikTok Video Captures the Essence of Connecticut’s Dark Truth
Recently I was scrolling through my TikTok feed (what up China!?) when I came across a State-by-State themed video that caught my eye.

The video posted by @statelyexplore was titled "The Shocking Dark Side of Every U.S. State." It was part of a larger series. For Alabama, they pointed out that outdated interracial marriage laws are still on the books. Alaska was noted for having the highest murder rate in the U.S., while California was highlighted for having the country’s largest homeless population. But what about Connecticut? I had to see if they could capture the darker side of the Nutmeg State. Here’s what they came up with.

"Connecticut - Extreme wealth gap between rich and poor."
That’s about as close to capturing the essence of Connecticut as you can get, but let me elaborate a bit. The state seems to have no middle class at all. It feels as though those in charge are systematically pushing out anyone who isn’t extremely wealthy.
I guess the idea is for America's rich to carve out an entire state to call their own without having to ever interact with the rest of us. There are only so many financial magic tricks a family can pull to make life in Connecticut possible. Eventually, you run out of gimmicks and it's time to pack the KIA and move along.
For the Know-it-Alls with an itchy social media trigger finger: I'm aware the middle-class has eroded all across this country. I just think it's a little more pronounced here.
