Danbury to Raise Purple Flag in October to Support Domestic Violence Awareness

According to a release from the City of Danbury, the Center for Empowerment and Education is getting ready for its third annual Purple Flag Raising, an event designed to bring the community together in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 1 at 4 p.m. at Danbury City Hall. It is free and open to the public, so there’s no ticket, registration or fancy invitation required. You can just show up and be part of it.

The purple flag being raised represents hope, strength and support for people who have experienced domestic violence. Organizers say the event is also intended to remind the community that addressing domestic violence isn't something that can be left entirely to victims, survivors or advocacy organizations. It takes a community willing to speak up, show support and work toward preventing abuse.
