According to a new study from WalletHub, Connecticut is one of the most diverse states in the country, coming in at No. 15 overall. And if you live around Danbury, this probably isn't exactly shocking news.

Danbury has become one of those places where you can hear a dozen different languages, eat food from all over the world and somehow end up at a cultural festival you didn't even know was happening. In fact, WalletHub's separate 2026 study of America's most diverse cities ranked Danbury No. 4 among small cities in the country. So, when it comes to Connecticut's diversity numbers, the Hat City is doing some serious heavy lifting.

WalletHub isn't simply looking at race when it talks about diversity. The study considers six categories, including socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, religious and political diversity. Connecticut scored particularly well in socioeconomic and cultural diversity, ranking 11th and 12th respectively.

And since we're sitting right on the Connecticut/New York border, we have to give New York some attention too. New York actually landed at No. 6 nationally, making it one of the most diverse states in America.

Here are the Top 15:

1. California
2. Texas
3. New Mexico
4. Florida
5. Nevada
6. New York
7. New Jersey
8. Maryland
9. Hawaii
10. Arizona
11. Georgia
12. Illinois
13. Virginia
14. North Carolina
15. Connecticut

WalletHub says America's diversity continues to increase, and the Census Bureau projects that the country will no longer have a single ethnic majority by 2060. The numbers are already moving in that direction, with the likelihood of two randomly selected Americans belonging to different racial or ethnic groups increasing significantly between the 2010 and 2020 censuses.

So, Connecticut may be No. 15 as a state, but here in Danbury, we're getting a pretty good look at what America is becoming.
