New York Man Allegedly Caught With Heroin on Way to Drug Treatment Program
According to the Mid-Hudson News, a 37-year-old New York (Monticello) man has found himself in a pretty incredible situation after allegedly being caught with a bunch of drugs while he was on his way to attend a court-ordered drug treatment program.

The man, identified as Barry Bowser, was already on probation following a previous drug-related offense. As part of that probation, he was required to participate in a drug program. Apparently, getting arrested for having drugs wasn't enough to convince him to stay away from drugs, because authorities say he was allegedly carrying quite the supply when he showed up at the courthouse Tuesday.
According to the report, Bowser was searched at the courthouse and authorities allegedly found approximately 35 grams of heroin and fentanyl, along with crack cocaine. Investigators also reportedly discovered digital scales and packaging materials.
So, just to recap you're on probation for a drug offense, you've been ordered to attend a drug program, and on the way to that program, you're allegedly carrying heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine. That's one way to make sure you have a really awkward conversation with the people running the program.
Bowser had previously managed to avoid a 12-year prison sentence through a probation agreement. That arrangement is now reportedly off the table following the latest arrest.
In addition to potentially facing the consequences of violating his probation, Bowser is now dealing with new drug charges stemming from the alleged possession.
It's a pretty remarkable example of someone being given an opportunity to avoid a lengthy prison sentence and then allegedly making a decision that puts that deal right back on the table. If nothing else, this guy certainly picked an unusual time and place to allegedly be carrying drugs.
