Danbury Professional Firefighters Endorse State Rep. Farley Santo

According to a press release, State Representative Farley Santos’ re-election campaign has received endorsements from the Danbury Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 801, and the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut, or UPFFA.

The endorsements put Santos in the position of receiving support from both the professional firefighters’ union in Danbury and the statewide organization representing professional firefighters in Connecticut. Santos represents the 109th District in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

According to the release, Local 801 members voted to endorse Santos, pointing to his work on issues affecting firefighters and their families. The union specifically cited his support for legislation addressing occupational cancer among firefighters, along with other measures involving working conditions and protections for members of the profession.

The statewide UPFFA endorsement came after a recommendation from its Legislative Committee and a subsequent vote by its Executive Board. The organization also cited Santos’ support for issues involving professional firefighters.

Local 801 has represented professional members of the Danbury Fire Department since 1944 and is a charter member of UPFFA. The union represents professional firefighters in Danbury and lists fire suppression, fire prevention, investigations, technical rescue, hazardous-materials response and emergency medical response among the services its members provide.

Santos said the endorsements are significant to him because of his work on firefighter-related legislation and issues. He also pointed to his support for collective bargaining and other protections for first responders.

The endorsements are part of the political activity surrounding Santos’ campaign for another term in the Connecticut House.
