Can we stop firing guns for no reason?

According to the News Times Alan Gentrup who is 50-years-old fired his gun during a domestic dispute in Newtown. Gentrup apparently lives off of Meadow Road and was involved in an argument that could have turned out very deadly.

The cops got a report at 7:30PM on Saturday and responded.  According to the police, no one was injured, but he was arrested and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm.

I'm not going to get political or anything, but reason has to dictate this conversation now.

Not everyone should have access to a weapon. My father would choke me just for writing this, but despite the 2nd Amendment we cannot have everyone with guns. It's time to screen people for mental health issues before they are allowed to own guns.

That is as simple as I can put it. Reason and logic now have to be used to navigate this conversation. It's not that big of a deal, and it can save lives. If you need or want a gun so bad, it won't hurt to be screened.

You can have your guns ... I just want someone to ask a few questions before we just hand you an assault rifle.

This is the first and last blog I will write about this.

Don't bother sending me a letter about how you won't listen anymore or sending me statistics about gun violence from either side. Reasonable people should and can understand we should have the right to bear arms, but you should be screened. If it saves a few lives to go through a mental health screening is it not worth it?

Ask someone who has lost a family member to senseless gun violence.
