The True Value of $100 in Connecticut Revealed!
My wife Erica and I recently returned from vacation with the kids, and when we got home, she shared our bank balance, which was shocking—though not in a good way. Inflation has hit hard across the country, but living costs in Connecticut were already exorbitant.
Then, I stumbled on a study in my feed, I couldn't resist diving in. Upworthy had just released results from the Tax Foundation, examining the purchasing power of $100 in each state. Naturally, I zoomed in on Connecticut, eager to see what they had to say. When I saw their findings, I literally shouted at my phone; it seemed impossible.
According to the study, $100 in Connecticut is now worth only $92.00. Personally, I'd estimate it's closer to seventy bucks, but hey, I'm just a resident, what the hell do I know?
While $92.00 might sound like a relief compared to my rough guess, it's far from good news. It places us 45th in the nation for the value of our money. To put things in perspective, consider Mississippi, where $100 is valued at around $116. On the other end of the spectrum, Hawaii residents seem to be hit the hardest, with their $100 bill being worth about $84.
I'd like to hope someone will address this issue, but frankly, I'm not holding my breath. It's been ages since I handed over a $100 bill and received change, which is disheartening.
P.S. Yes, I still prefer using cash whenever possible—I guess I'm a proud dinosaur, and let's face it, it's cooler than tapping a chip.
