Danbury Police Issue Important Warning About Fatal Crash Misinformation

According to a release from the Danbury Police Department, investigators are asking the public to slow down and make sure they're sharing accurate information after an innocent woman was mistakenly identified online in connection with the fatal crash that claimed the lives of a Bridgeport police officer and his girlfriend earlier this month.

Police say a woman from New Britain, along with possibly other people who have similar names, has been incorrectly linked to the tragic July 13 crash on social media and elsewhere online. Authorities say those individuals have absolutely no connection to the case and should not be identified as being involved.

The person actually charged in the investigation is Melissa Esperanza Ramirez of Stamford, who was arrested on July 24. She is currently being held on bond as the case moves through the court system.

The Danbury Police Department is reminding everyone that misinformation can spread incredibly fast, especially on social media. Once an incorrect name or photo starts making the rounds, it can have serious consequences for people who have nothing to do with an incident.
