Is New Milford Really In Danger of a Landslide? The Scary Truth
Is New Milford in danger of a landslide? According to a new report from Prime Publishers Inc., the answer is yes. They recently released data from the Department of Interior Geological Survey, revealing that Litchfield County ranks as the #1 most at-risk area in Connecticut for landslides.

Litchfield County, home to New Milford, is especially vulnerable due to its mountainous terrain. The region is known for steep slopes, which make it more prone to landslides, especially during heavy rainfall or snowmelt. With climate change intensifying extreme weather, the likelihood of these events increases. This means that New Milford, the largest town in Litchfield, could face serious risks in the future.
Landslides occur when rock, earth, or debris move down a slope, and are often triggered by factors like storms, earthquakes, or human activity. In Litchfield County, the steep hillsides are particularly susceptible. With over half of the land in the county at risk, it’s a critical issue for local residents and officials to monitor closely.
Here’s the full ranking of Connecticut counties by landslide risk:
1 - Litchfield County
2 - Fairfield County
3 - Middlesex County
4 - New Haven County
5 - Tolland County
6 - New London County
7 - Windham County
8 - Hartford County
A wise woman once said:
Ah, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
Oh, the landslide will bring it down

P.S. It's hilarious that Fairfield County is #2. Not only do I have to deal with the disgusting traffic in Downtown Danbury and have weirdos ask me for cigarettes every day but now I have to worry about landslides!?
