I love cooking with olive oil. With a smoke point that averages around 400 degrees, it's a very versatile oil that stands up to the heat of cooking, and it infuses the cooked product with that delicious taste.

One of Waterbury's semi-hidden gems is The Olive Oil Factory, which is located at 197 Huntingdon Avenue in the Brass City. It's owned and operated by the Miller family, who take great pride in their delicious products.

You may have met the Millers at events around the area, they set up shop at the Southbury, Monroe, Bethel, and Norfolk Farmer's Markets throughout the season.

The shelves at the retail store are stocked with many products besides their namesake olive oils. You'll find assorted vinegars, grapeseed oils, salts and seasonings, antipastos, pastas, and meats and cheeses as you stroll around the beautiful store.

This Saturday, July 30, The Olive Oil Factory is hosting a special tasting event at their store from 10AM to 3PM. You can sample gourmet foods prepared with their oils and vinegars.

You must RSVP to attend. To do so, send your name, the time you will arrive, and the number of guests you will be attending with, to jenn@theoliveoilfactory.com.

They had me at "Gourmet tasting", I'll see you there
