
Danbury Police Say Suspect Rammed 2 Cops Cars Trying to Get Away
The Danbury Police Special Investigations Division (SID) has been busy lately.

On September 13th, they arrested a man they say is a known drug dealer in the Beaver Street area. On Monday (9/18/23) Danbury authorities arrested another drug suspect in the same area. Police say they were conducting surveillance at 7 Ashe Place in the Beaver Street housing complex while armed with search and seizure warrants.
While the surveillance was underway cops say they saw one of the targets of the investigation David Melendez leaving 7 Ashe Place and getting into a vehicle. Police say the vehicle came to a stop at George Street and another man named Claiton Oliveira got into the car. As they converged SID agents say Melendez attempted to flee.
The press release states the following:
"Melendez put his vehicle in reverse smashing into an unoccupied Detective car which pushed it approximately 10 feet backward. He then pulled forward striking another Detective’s car and tree. Both Melendez and Oliveira exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot."
Police caught up with both suspects and searched the men. Officers say Melendez had 37 bags containing a rocklike substance that was field-tested positive as crack cocaine. The report says Melendez also had one Ecstasy pill which field tested positive as MDMA and $242.00 in cash. The press release says Oliveira was in possession of one bag of rocklike substance that field tested positive for crack cocaine.
Both suspects were placed under arrest, they face the following charges
David Melendez
- Sale of a Narcotics Substance
- Possession of a Controlled Substance 2 counts
- Possession of Narcotics with intent to sell
- Interfering with the duties of a police officer
- Reckless Driving
- Reckless Endangerment
- Unsafe backing
Claiton Oliveira
- Possession of a controlled substance
After the men were arrested police say they searched 7 Ashe Place and found narcotics packaging and a scale. David Melendez had his bond set at $350,000.
