The Knights of Columbus McGivney Council No. 29 is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive this Saturday, August 22, in Danbury. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Church Hall, located at 376 Main Street.

If you're eligible to donate, this is one of those things that takes relatively little time but can have a major impact. Hospitals and medical centers depend on donated blood for patients dealing with emergencies, surgeries, accidents, serious illnesses, and a variety of other medical situations. In other words, there is always a need for people willing to roll up their sleeves.

And while donating blood might not feel like you're doing something particularly dramatic, one donation can potentially help multiple patients. That's a pretty good return on the small amount of time it takes to sit in a chair and give blood.

The Knights of Columbus and the American Red Cross are encouraging eligible members of the community to participate and help keep the local blood supply stocked. It's also a great example of the kind of community event that doesn't require you to spend money or buy anything—you just show up and give a little of yourself.

The organizers are also thanking St. Joseph Church for providing the space, along with everyone who volunteers, donates, or helps spread the word about the blood drive.

So, if you're eligible and you've been looking for an easy way to do some good this weekend, Saturday's blood drive in Danbury is a pretty solid option. You could walk out knowing that your donation may help save someone's life.
