Danbury Kids Get Free School Supplies at Fun Community Event
According to a release from the City of Danbury, families recently gathered outside the Danbury Police Department headquarters for another successful Party on the Patio, bringing together kids, parents, police officers, and local organizations for a fun community event.

The event, organized through DanburyWORKS, gave families an opportunity to enjoy some time together while also getting ready for the upcoming school year. There were plenty of activities for children, music, community resources, and, perhaps most importantly for parents, free backpacks and school supplies.

The timing couldn't have been better with the new school year right around the corner. Anyone who has ever had to buy school supplies for multiple kids knows that the list can get ridiculous pretty quickly. Pencils, notebooks, folders, crayons, glue, and whatever other oddly specific item the school suddenly decides your child absolutely needs can add up fast. Free supplies are definitely something families can appreciate.

Events like this are also a good way for children to interact with local police officers outside of the usual circumstances where an officer shows up and everybody suddenly gets nervous. Instead, kids get to see officers in a much more relaxed setting, helping create positive relationships between young people and the people who serve their community.

The City of Danbury recognized DanburyWORKS, the Danbury Police Department, Danbury Public Schools, participating organizations, and the volunteers who helped put everything together. Of course, the biggest thank-you went to the families who came out and made the event a success.

With school starting back up, a free backpack and some school supplies are nice, but getting the community together and giving kids a positive experience with local police might be the best takeaway of all.
