Pawling Man Arrested in Connection with Danbury Homicide Investigation
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest has been made in a homicide investigation that began earlier this month and involves the death of a Danbury man.
Sheriff Brian Hess announced that Santos Vasquez Ramirez, a 28-year-old from Pawling, New York, was taken into custody on December 12 at around 6:50 p.m. Deputies arrested him outside his residence following what authorities describe as an extensive and coordinated investigation.

The case stems from the December 7 death of 66-year-old Aurelio Zhunio-Orbez of Danbury, Connecticut. Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations spent days piecing together the case, reviewing surveillance video, examining forensic evidence, and working closely with several partner agencies.
According to investigators, that work included canvassing numerous surveillance systems and analyzing physical evidence recovered during the investigation. Blood and DNA evidence were collected and submitted for testing, which is still ongoing. After his arrest, officials say Vasquez Ramirez confessed to the crimes during questioning.

He is now facing serious charges, including second-degree murder, a Class A felony, and first-degree robbery, a Class B felony. Vasquez Ramirez is expected to be arraigned later today in the Town of Southeast Court.
Sheriff Hess credited the arrest to a large, multi-agency effort, thanking investigators and deputies within his office as well as the Westchester County Police Department, the Real Time Crime Center, the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, and assisting agencies including Danbury Police, MTA Police, DEP Police, and several surrounding law enforcement departments.
The Sheriff’s Office also extended its condolences to the Orbez family, acknowledging the loss of a 66-year-old Danbury resident whose death has deeply impacted those who knew him.
