According to study results from Coventry Direct, Connecticut has a favorite sandwich, and if you know anything about the Northeast, the choice probably won't surprise you.

The study used Google Trends data from the previous 12 months to determine the most-searched sandwich in each state. In Connecticut, the winner was pastrami on rye. Our neighbors in New York picked the same sandwich, making it a shared regional favorite.

Pastrami on rye was also the top search in New Jersey, California and Nevada, although the Northeast connection is probably the most interesting part for us. Connecticut and New York both have deep deli traditions, so apparently people in both states are still searching for that combination of salty pastrami, rye bread and whatever toppings they consider acceptable.

And let's be honest, this is one of those rankings that could start an argument pretty quickly. Connecticut has plenty of sandwich options that could have made a case for the top spot, and New Yorkers aren't exactly known for quietly accepting an opinion about food.

Nationally, turkey sandwiches and grilled cheese tied for the most popular spot, each ranking first in seven states. Turkey dominated in places including Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma and Washington. Grilled cheese was the favorite in states such as Vermont, Wisconsin, Ohio and Virginia.

Other regional favorites included bologna sandwiches in Kentucky and Tennessee, brisket sandwiches in Texas and Georgia, and tuna melts in Montana and Oregon. Rhode Island and Delaware went in a completely different direction, with the ice cream sandwich topping the search rankings.

It's worth pointing out that this study measured Google searches, not actual sandwich sales or what people are ordering at their local deli. So Connecticut residents aren't necessarily walking around eating pastrami on rye every day.

Still, when Connecticut and New York agree on something involving food, it's probably worth talking about. And now I'm hungry.

America’s Most Horrific Pizza Has 3 Locations In Connecticut

24/7 Wall Street conducted a study to uncover America's worst pizza. They scoured the internet for negative pizza reviews and compiled a list using the following method:

"consulted pizza reviews from five different food blogs and websites. Given the subjective nature of pizza preferences, we only included pizza chains that consistently ranked near the bottom across multiple sites."

After their investigation, it was revealed that the title of worst pizza in America belongs to three locations right here in Connecticut. Let's count down from 5 to 1 as we reveal the state's most disappointing pizzas and identify their locations.
