According to the CT State Police, drivers in Connecticut still need constant reminders about the state’s Move Over law — you know, the thing we all swear we follow, but somehow nobody ever does when you actually need them to.

State Police say the rule is simple: if you’re approaching a stopped first responder or a disabled vehicle on the side of the road, move over one lane if you can. If you can’t, slow down. That’s it. That’s the whole assignment.

Colonel Daniel Loughman of the Connecticut State Police said they’ve just seen too many close calls and tragedies because people don’t move over. Troopers are cracking down and say they’re going to enforce the rule hard, especially this time of year when the roads are chaos and everyone is “in a hurry” to sit in traffic.

All 50 states have some version of the law, and it’s meant to protect anyone who ends up working or stranded on the side of the highway — cops, firefighters, EMTs, tow truck drivers, or just a regular person with a blown tire and bad luck. The idea is to give them some space, so they don’t become a hood ornament.

And look, this is all well and good. It should be an easy law to follow. But out on the actual roads? Forget it. Ninety percent of people never do it. I move over because I’ve been that guy changing a tire with almost no room for error, cars ripping by 18 inches from my back doing 80 mph. It’s absolutely terrifying.

Then, when I’m the one trying to move over — maybe to give someone else space — I’m suddenly trapped because the person in the passing lane decides to be my buddy and match my speed exactly, mile after mile, like we’re in some kind of synchronized driving competition. I swear, Fairfield County is cursed with some of the worst drivers alive.

So yeah… the law is there, the warnings are out, and the State Police are serious. Now if only the people actually driving would get the memo.

Want to Move Out of CT? Skip Florida, These Foreign Lands Are Better Options

If you live in Connecticut, chances are you’ve thought about moving — probably more than once. Warm weather, beaches, and palm trees all sound great, until you remember Florida also comes with dinosaurs in the canals and bugs the size of volleyballs. I lived there for a bit, and let’s just say the honeymoon phase ended fast.

Instead of packing up and hauling down to America’s filthiest swamp, maybe consider these foreign lands instead. I’ve identified five affordable and beautiful countries where your dollar can really go far.

My research included, but was not limited to, sources like Forbes, MSN, and Expatsi. Here are five countries you might want to bring up at your next family meeting.
