Connecticut Listed as ‘One of the Least Religious States – 2024′

You are among the reported 68% of the population of United States that consider religion important in your life. If you live here in Connecticut, or anywhere in New England, have you noticed a drop in attendance at church?
According to a study just released by Smilehub.org, Connecticut is the 10th least religious state in the US for 2024. All five of the New England states actually landed in the Bottom 10 of the study, but our Northern neighbors are where the true non-believers have settled.
In order to come up with their rankings, Smilehub.org compared all 50 states across three key dimensions: Religious Interest & Places of Worship, Religious Education & Careers, and Religion-Affiliated Organizations. that data was evaluated using 11 different metrics, including the share of adult who consider religion important to their lives, attend services weekly, places of worship per capita, religious studies degrees, faith and support services per capita, and share of religion-related careers.
Connecticut ranked #41 out of 50 for 2024. In the Religious interest and places of worship metric, we ranked at 41, but in the religious education and careers metric, Connecticut landed near the best in the country at #6. As for the rest of New England? Rhode Island landed at #43, Massachusetts at #45, Vermont at #47, and New Hampshire and Maine landed at the very bottom of the least religious states for 2024 at #49 & #50.
