Waterbury + Litchfield to Host Family-Friendly Fire Pit Festivals
It sucks getting stuck inside by the ice and snow, right? We're hardy New Englanders, an inch or two of ice? Get the cleats. 6-12 inches of snow? The plows will eat that up in 3 hours. We're not Florida where they moan about temps below 50. Give me -5 and I'll still run over to LaBonne's to get more hot chocolate.
The brave citizens of Waterbury and Litchfield will have a chance to laugh in the face of Mother Nature over the next couple weekends. Both municipalities are presenting outdoor family-friendly festivals, featuring multiple fire-pits, food trucks, ice sculptures and fun & games for the kids.
The first event is Saturday, January 28, 2022 outdoors at the Litchfield Community Center on Bantam Road. It's called The Fire & Ice Family Funfest and it's happening from 12:30-4:30 PM. Funny, there is an alternate weather date of the next day, Sunday January 30. Anyway, there's going to be an ice sculptor, a 25 foot climbing wall, food & games for the kids, fireside storytelling, fire pits, axe throwing, wagon rides from Bunnell Farm, and popcorn & hot chocolate.
If you can't make it to Litchfield, my hometown of Waterbury is also holding an outdoor event the following Saturday, February 5, 2022. "Winter is the Pits 3" is what the City of Waterbury is dubbing their 3rd free fire pit festival. The event is happening from 11 AM to 7 PM at the Stone House Pavilion in Hamilton Park. Winter is the Pits 3 will feature 12 firepits, a large community bonfire, S'mores toasting, ice skating, winter volleyball and more games, plus food trucks and a mobile pub.
Both events are free, there is no admission charge to either.
