Where Did You See ‘Jaws’ For the First Time in Connecticut in 1975?
One of the greatest movies set in New England, and of all time, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, do you remember the movie theater where you watched Jaws on a big screen in 1975?
Watching Jaws in a movie theater 50 years ago was a mind-blowing experience, especially for a six-year-old. One of my fondest memories was seeing Jaws for the first time on a big screen. Sadly, all of the movie theaters where Jaws first ran in 1975 are gone. My first time seeing this masterpiece was at Pine Twin Drive-In in Waterbury, remember that theater? It was demolished when I was in high school during the early 80's to make way for condos and the transfer station on Mark Lane. My dad took my brother and I to see Jaws again at Colonial Plaza 1-2-3-4, and years later I remember seeing Jaws 2, and Jaws 3-D at General Cinemas in the Naugatuck Valley Mall. Here's a blast from the past from an old copy of the Waterbury Republican I saved from 1989. What would you give for one more night at Mayo's, Amigos or the Naugatuck Valley Mall?
New England is the place to be if you're still a huge fan of Jaws, Martha's Vineyard is going all in with a massive celebration with tours of filming sites, and special events featuring surviving cast members. In Connecticut, a 50th anniversary celebration will be held during the CT Maritime Heritage Festival in New London in September that will feature Robert Shaw's son Christopher.
