Do you remember Roy Rogers restaurants and their famous 'Fixin's Bar'? I used to pile pickles, onions, and lettuce onto my burger before the chain disappeared from Connecticut. Well, Roy Rogers is back, as is the 'Fixin's Bar', and there's one not too far from us here.

I loved eating at the Roy Rogers on Wolcott Street in Waterbury, I got my first job in 1985, and Roy Rogers was the closest fast food restaurant. I can't tell you how many times I delightfully stuffed 35 pickles on top of a single burger patty and inhaled it. Unlike the big three: Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's, Roy Rogers didn't are about containing their condiment costs, the 'Fixin's Bar' was a mini-salad bar stocked with all the lettuce, onions, pickles, tomatoes, peppers, and sauces that your empty stomach desired. Here's a classic commercial that I found on YouTube -

Most of the Roy Rogers in Connecticut disappeared through the 1990's into the early 2000's, but the concept was kept alive by our collective good thoughts, and the company has made numerous comeback attempts over the past 20 years. I just found out that there is a Roy Rogers restaurant on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Allentown, Pennsylvania at this moment.

Allentown is around a two-three hour drive from anywhere in Western Connecticut, I know this because I recently made a trip to the closest Waffle House to Connecticut, which is also around two hours away in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Here's a video I found on YouTube of the updated 'Fixin's Bar', get ready for a flashback.

If you need to find me this weekend, I'll be in Allentown, where they've taken all the coal from the ground, but the pickles are endless.

Considering the Possibilities for Waterbury's Rep-Am Building

Got $5 million and a dream? You could be the owner of one of Connecticut's most unique landmarks: A 240 foot brick clocktower and the building it rises from. The Waterbury Republican-American Building on Meadow Street will reportedly be reimagined into residential living spaces, but I thought of a few suggestions or possibilities for the potential new owner.
