Lowest Gas Prices in the Greater-Danbury Area

According to a AAA release on August 27th, drivers across the country aren't getting much of a break at the gas pump, with the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline sitting at $4.09. That's actually a penny cheaper than it was the previous week, but let's be honest, when you're still paying more than four bucks a gallon, a one-cent drop isn't exactly cause for celebration.

AAA says crude oil prices have also remained relatively steady, hovering around $80 per barrel. Continued uncertainty and volatility in the Strait of Hormuz are helping keep pressure on oil prices, which eventually makes its way down to drivers.

And there's a bigger milestone hiding in those numbers. For the first time ever, the national average price of regular gasoline has stayed above $4 per gallon every single day throughout the month of August.

That means August 2026 is on track to become the most expensive August ever recorded at the gas pump, surpassing the previous record set back in 2022.

So while the price may have dropped slightly over the past week, AAA's numbers suggest we're still dealing with a pretty painful summer for anyone who has to fill up regularly. And with Labor Day weekend approaching, plenty of Americans are about to put even more miles on their vehicles.
