It takes a special someone to lead in a career where your employees are putting their lives on the line every moment of every day. The City of Danbury is currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates for the Fire Chief position. The Fire Chief candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong motivational leadership style with a track record of having affected positive change in an organizational environment. The Fire Chief candidate must understand and have experience in the development of vision, mission and organizational values. The Fire Chief must show significant knowledge and experience in the municipal fire arena. This is leadership and administrative fire service work. An employee in this classification is responsible for the overall management of the department as a member of the Mayor’s staff

Okay, if that didn't make you say, "ehhhhh, maybe I'm not cut out for this", there are additional requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Fire Science, Business, Public Administration or related field plus a minimum of five years experience in career fire service with supervisory fire fighting experience, fire department administration and fire prevention is required. Strong preference will be given for a Master’s Degree and five years of upper level management experience, along with other advanced leadership training.  Must also have: Extensive knowledge and ability to establish and maintain programs, practices and techniques relating to fire fighting, first responder methods, and safety standards and precautions; thorough knowledge of effective managerial practices and methods; and extensive and successful grant writing experience. A working knowledge of Emergency management matters and related laws, rules, regulations, and requirements as it relates to Civil Defense and Natural Disaster Relief is highly preferred.

The Fire Chief is required to become a resident of the City of Danbury within 6 months of hire and maintain residency for the duration of the appointment.
