Trader Joe’s Expansion: Two New Stores Coming to Connecticut in 2025

Trader Joe’s is in growth mode (sounds gross), with 41 new locations set to open nationwide this year. And yes, Connecticut made the list. The cult-favorite grocery chain — famous for its Hawaiian shirts, frozen orange chicken, and snacks with oddly specific names — is officially bringing new locations to Connecticut. According to MSN/Kiplinger, the new CT Trader Joe's locations are coming to:

  • Hamden - Exact addresses haven’t dropped yet, but it’s happening.
  • Shelton - Exact addresses haven’t dropped yet, but it’s happening.

If you’ve been inside a Trader Joe’s, you know the drill: no self-checkouts, smaller stores, and a shopping vibe that feels less like a chain and more like your quirky cousin’s pantry exploded into a storefront. The formula works — the chain was recently named the best grocery store in the entire country.

For Nutmeg State shoppers, this means more options without having to trek across town or across the state to stock up on plantain chips and dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

I’m not exactly a die-hard Trader Joe’s fan. I don’t hate the place, but I still remember feeling a little ripped off when my wife sent me there for a jar of honey that rang up at $14.99. That said, I’ll give credit where it’s due — they’ve got the best licorice I’ve ever had from any store. If you’re a licorice person, grab a bag. You’ll thank me later.

Of course, it’s not cheap either. I don’t recall the exact price, but I do remember the bag only had a handful of pieces. That’s the trick — they’re not “pieces,” they’re “bites.” And bites disappear fast.

Our New York neighbors are also getting a few new Trader Joe’s locations (Glenmont, Miller Place, Staten Island, and Williamsville). But honestly, the only ones that matter are Hamden and Shelton.

P.S. Is it a corporate rule that all Trader Joe's parking lots need to be a disaster? The ones I've been to seem to have that in common. You could get beatdown by a grocery store gang trying to capture a parking spot at the Danbury location. It's a turf war out there bro.
