Three of the Most Beautiful State Parks in America Are Drivable From Connecticut
I am all for hiking and sightseeing. It's actually one of my favorite things to do. Our country is home to some of the most amazing places and I feel like everyone should see as much as they can.
I love visiting national parks and seeing the stunning views each park has to offer. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot on our side of the country, but it's worth the trip to go see them. Unless you want to go to Acadia National Park, you're sticking with more state parks on this side.
While state parks are still beautiful, I don't think they do the justice of what national parks offer, but that's okay. I'll take all of the beautiful nature I can get. Media Feed came out with a list of 15 of America's most beautiful state parks and I was excited to see some that were easily drivable from Connecticut.
'Drivable' to some people may still be too far, but when you have to hop on a plane for other national parks, you'll take the road trip to see the state park in all of its beauty. The list had state parks that blanketed the whole country, but I am going to highlight the ones that we can easily go to.
The first on our side to make the list came in at number 5 and it was Baxter State Park in Maine. The article states that the park is 215 miles of trails in the park that spans over 20,000 acres. If you're looking for something like Acadia but half the size, this would be the place for you. It is about a 7 and a half hour road trip from Danbury, but if you make a long weekend out of it, I think it would be worth it. And hey, you can hit Acadia up while you're at it.
Coming in at number 8 was Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. This park is deep within the White Mountains and is the state's most popular park. They have an aerial tram you can ride to 4,080-foot Cannon Mountain, where you can have views as far as Canada and New York. There is also a beach not far away where you can spend a day at Echo Lake, according to the article. This state park is about a 5 hour drive from Danbury. Perfect for a long weekend getaway.
The last one on the list that hits toward our part of the state is Niagara Falls State Park. And I know what you are thinking, it's far away. And while it is a bit of a drive, it is well worth it and it's doable. I drove to the Canada side of Niagara Falls and it was beautiful. Niagara is about a 6 hour and 15 minute drive from Danbury.
While these are all pretty long road trips, I think they're so worth it. I'm willing to hop on a plane to go see national parks, so it's no different then sitting in a car and road tripping to beautiful state ones.
Have you ever been to any of these? I would love to know. I may have to add them to m list of places to visit.
