This Was a Bad Week For Shoplifters in Westport
If you're a retail employee, you know that we're experiencing a shoplifting epidemic in Connecticut. I noticed it because every day I read reports of organized shoplifters ripping off retail stores in Connecticut. Not today though, it was roundup time for the shoplifters in Westport.
The Westport Police Department announced multiple arrests for a slew of shoplifting incidents that were reported at various businesses in town over the past year. The first incident involved an employee at The Paper Source at 100 Post Road East. According to Westport Police, store management reported money missing from their safe and suspected employee theft. Utilizing surveillance footage, officers identified an employee, Adele Droblas, as their suspect. Droblas was arrested, and charged with Larceny 5th, and Larceny 6th. Droblas was released on bond, and a court date has been set for May 3, 2023.
In other Westport shoplifting news, an incident was reported at the Sunglass Hut on 74 Main Street on April 9, 2023. Employees allegedly witnesses a suspect place a pair of sunglasses in her purse and leave without paying, but they got her license plate. After an investigation, the suspect has been identified as Zhan Flynn, who has been been taken into custody.
Flynn also faces charges for a shoplifting incident that was reported at Ulta Beauty at 1365 Post Road East on January 29, 2023. Flynn was allegedly captured on surveillance footage placing items into a basket and walking out without paying. Flynn faces additional Larceny 4 and larceny 6 charges in addition to the charges stemming from the Sunglass Hut incident.
