Do you remember the first movie that ever made you cry? For me, it was Steven Spielberg's 1982 masterpiece E.T. - the Extra Terrestrial. I saw it on the day it opened, June 11, 1982, my 13th birthday. I cried so hard at the end of that film.

I've seen most of Spielberg's films, some way more than others, because a few make me sob uncontrollably. I can't watch Schindler's List, or Saving Private Ryan, they affect me too deeply, and I need to try to be funny at my job. Jaws? I've seen it hundreds of times.

I was lucky enough to be alive to see many of the classic films of the 70's, 80's, and 90's in a theater. I love how local theaters here have screened classic films for a new generation of movie goers. I saw a show announcement this morning that takes this a step further for us fans of live entertainment.

Waterbury's Palace Theater has just announced an upcoming event that hits me in the feels - A screening of E.T., with live orchestration from the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra. It's happening on Saturday night, April 1, 2023. You need a moment of uplifting music and a preview of what to expect? Here you go -

John Williams and Spielberg have collaborated multiple times over the course of our lifetimes, and have come up with masterpieces more often than not. If you need a good cry, or just appreciate the art that a live orchestra can create, this has the potential to be a wonderful event.
