I saw that they're very close to opening up the new Dunkin' on West Main Street in Waterbury, but are you old enough to remember the A&P that used to be there?

I learned how to drive in the early 80's, and one of my favorite things to do was bring my grandmother to the A&P on West Main. We would walk those short aisles and fill the cart with pasta, produce, and meats. I loved driving her to Everybody's Market on South Main, and the two Pathmarks too. I felt like such an adult in her Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.

Grocery stores were so much smaller back in the day, there were no 'MEGA' markets. Waterbury had two Pathmarks, and they were the biggest stores that I can remember. Especially the one that used to be where Home Depot currently is. The other Pathmark was located in the Colonial Plaza, it's now Cherry Valley Marketplace.

Both Pathmarks were gross, the stores were outdated and usually crowded. I liked going to Everybody's on South Main, but it was old and outdated too. The A&P on West Main? Immaculate, it was my favorite. All of the old Italian ladies working there kept that place sparkling.

Here's a video I found on YouTube that shows you how the stores looked -

My grandma would gather up all of her Green Stamps, her pocketbook, and it was off to shop. I don't remember her ever spending more than $100, imagine that now? A&P was the largest grocery store chain in the United States through most of the 1900's, but they totally disappeared in 2015. I want to say that the A&P on West Main closed in the early 90's? That corner of the earth has changed so much in my lifetime, 1249 West Main and the Texaco, I miss you too.

Back in the Day, What Concerts Did You See at Lake Compounce?

Lake Compounce recently announced that they're building a floating stage, and bringing live music back in the Summer of 2023. I loved going to concerts at Compounce back in the day, and I saved some of my ticket stubs, were you at these shows?
