The Creator of One of Connecticut’s Finest Seafood Restaurants Has Passed
One of New England's finest chefs, and the creator of one of Connecticut's best seafood restaurants has passed away at the age of 70 after suffering a brain aneurysm.
Yesterday afternoon, the President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun, Jeff Hamilton, announced the passing of renowned Chef Jasper White. White was the Chef and creator of Jasper White's Summer Shack one of Mohegan Sun's most popular casual-dining restaurants for decades. Hamilton said on Mohegan Sun's social media:
"For over 20 years Jasper White's Summer Shack has been a fan-favorite at Mohegan Sun. White was an amazing chef and a brilliant partner. It was relationships like this one that really helped Mohegan Sun become a world-class dining destination along our gaming, hospitality, and entertainment offerings. From the entire Mohegan family, our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends."
Jasper White's Summer Shack at Mohegan Sun is my favorite restaurant out of any casino on Earth. I'll wait while you try to find fresh steamers, different varieties of locally-sourced oysters, or a raw bar at any Atlantic City or Las Vegas Resort & Casino, good luck. Mohegan Sun had the vision over 20 years ago to partner with White, and offer our New England clam shack favorites away from the sandy boardwalks. I was hooked on Summer Shack the first time I tried White's Peel & Eat steamed Shrimp. Try it off the app menu the next time, you'll dream about it for years just like I did.
According to forbes.com, White pioneered "New New England Cuisine" in the 1980's, featuring the bounty that is available in the cold waters right off of our shores. There are three Jasper White's Summer Shacks in operation: Boston, Cambridge, and Mohegan Sun. White passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
