Tappan Zee Bridge Could Be Renamed (Again)
The Tappan Zee Bridge may see another name change.
On Monday, Putnam County Assemblyman Kevin Byrne and Orange County Assemblyman Karl Brabenec introduced legislation to return the newly named Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge to its old name, the Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge, reports the Times Union.
The name change was criticized by many. Recently, over 104,000 people signed a Change.org petition to return the bridge to its old name.
Last year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo renamed the bridge in honor of his late father and former New York Governor.
The name change was part of legislation that also approved to name a stretch of a highway after Sen. Bill Larkin and a park after former Assemblyman Herman D. Farrell, Jr., reports New York State of Politics.
