State Grant Preserves 650 Acre Undeveloped Parcel Along Rt. 202
The Governor of Connecticut Ned Lamont announced the release yesterday of $14.5 million dollars in state grants to 18 municipalities around the state of Connecticut with the purpose of protecting 2,626 acres of open space. One of the largest undeveloped parcels of land remaining in Northwest Connecticut will continue to be undisturbed.
Milde Farm is a 650.28 acre property located on the Litchfield/Torrington line along Rt. 202. The acreage between Town Farm Road, Wilson Road, and Norfolk Road is along the big hill area on 202 near the Litchfield/Torrington line. Thanks to a $3,559,914 state grant to Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy, and an assist from the Litchfield Land Trust, you will not see any of this open land developed.
Thomaston also got a piece of state grant funding, $61,175 dollars has been awarded to the town of Thomaston to improve a grassy, triangular piece of property directly next to the Seth Thomas Clock Factory. The small park at the intersection of Thomaston's South Main, Elm, and Marple Streets is often utilized by the community for arts & crafts events and concerts. What's coming? The Town of Thomaston has designed an amphitheater with new parking area, and the infrastructure will be improved to bring in water, sewer, and lighting bike racks, and areas for sitting.
Southbury, and the Southbury Land trust received $121,485 in state grant money in order to purchase 5.95 acres of land along Silver Beech Road. The preservation of this small piece of land will help protect vernal pools and a spring-fed stream. Congratulations, and thank you for keeping our open spaces open.
