Love Mai Tai's? Listening to tropical music? Well, a seasonal Tiki Bar is opening up at the end of June inside one of the best destinations in Connecticut.

Did you ever go to a Hu Ke Lau Polynesian Restaurant when you were a kid? In Connecticut there were Hu Ke Lau's in Rocky Hill, Bridgeport, and Bloomfield, and up until 2018 there was one Hu Ke Lau left in our area, it was in Chicopee, Massachusetts. My wife grew up in nearby Ludlow, and her parents used to take her and her sisters out for a fun evening of Pupu platters, umbrella drinks, and dancers performing with flaming torches.

Polynesian Tiki Bars were huge across America during the 1940's-1980's, some of the names you might remember were Hu Ke Lau, Trader Vic's, Kon Tiki, and Aku Aku. These were the places that introduced us to exotic island drinks like the Mai Tai, Suffering Bastard, Doctor Funk of Tahiti, and the massive Scorpion Bowl. The Tiki Bar trend started to splinter off into specific restaurants during the 80's and 90's, and in 2025? They're starting to make a comeback.

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville is one of Connecticut's premiere resort destinations, so it's fitting that they're just announced that they will open up a seasonal Tiki Bar in the Sky Tower lobby on June 26 to really kick in their Hot Summer Fun. According to the upcoming drink menu, most of your old favorites will be served, but you'll have to enjoy egg rolls and Pupu platters at another of their fine restaurants.
