Scary Looking, Spiderlike Crickets Reported in Putnam County Homes
If you should spot a good-sized bug like the one in this photo, DON'T PANIC. Everything will eventually be just fine.
According to an article in the Putnam Daily Voice, this scary looking little bugger has reportedly been spotted in some homes in Putnam County, NY and it's freakin' people out! Not to worry people, these Spider Crickets, also know as Camel Crickets don't bite and are not lethal, but they are a pain-in-the-ass.
It's amazing how much food these crickets can wolf down and not put on a pound. They chow down on fungus, fabric, carpet, wood, cardboard, dust, and sometimes munch on each other, but they find humans unappetizing, so you won't get bitten.
They are some shade of brown in color and measure in at 1 to 2 inches long. These spider crickets are ugly som'bitches, with large rear legs and antennae the size of Lebron James.
The good news is they can't fly and they don't make any noise, but they can be a major nuisance if they start in on eating your clothes. They hang out in high moisture areas like basements, bathrooms, and attic areas. Don't mess around with these scary looking pains-in-the-ass. My advice would be to call an exterminator.
