Reckless Parking Lot Driving is a Problem in Torrington
A local building owner in Torrington has publicly expressed his frustrations on social media regarding reckless drivers speeding through his parking lot. Pleading for help getting the word out about the dangers of reckless driving. This is something that I've noticed on numerous occasions around town, here you go sir-
Last night around 7 PM, the owner of the building at 9 Migeon Avenue, John Ferris, posted an impassioned plea on a few of the Torrington, Connecticut-related groups on social media. The one that I saw was on Facebook in the Torrington CT Community Group. Ferris starts his statement by saying that he is the owner of the building, soon to be Cravings Cafe and Grill (Opening May 30, 2023), and he's frustrated with the amount of reckless drivers that cut through his parking lot at high speeds in order to avoid sitting at the traffic light in front of his building.
According to Ferris, a vehicle trying to avoid the traffic light at the intersection of Migeon and Water cut through his parking lot at a high rate of speed yesterday, and almost hit one of his employees, who also had her child alongside. Ferris additionally states that even though he had put up barricades around the property, a vehicle barreled through them overnight recently, and he's got numerous videos of other alleged incidents.
I hear you Mr. Ferris, I've noticed the same reckless driving through parking lots in my part of town. I've watched impatient drivers crank through the Coffee House Plus parking lot on the corner of S. Main and Albert Street. Also in the Torrington Plaza, where it's becoming a challenge to not get hit as you waddle into Dollar General, or the 99 Restaurant.
Ferris concludes his statement passionately asking for the reckless driving to stop, before someone does the unthinkable, and kills someone. Red light cameras? Traffic enforcement? Concrete barricades? How can you get an 18 year old kid to think about the repercussions of their actions? Parents or guardians, I think this one is up to you.
