Police: Man Struck By Car in Danbury While Running From ICE Agent

A man who police say was attempting to flee from ICE agents today (July 6) was struck by a car outside of Danbury Superior Court.

According to a press release from the Danbury Police Department, a local officer who was inside of an undercover car saw the entire scene unfold. Apparently, 25-year-old Samuel Coctecon Cruz was set to appear in court today to be sentenced for a disorderly conduct and third-degree assault charges to which he pleaded guilty. The charges are reportedly the result of a domestic disturbance earlier in the year.

When Cruz arrived at the court house, however, he was met on the front steps by ICE agents, who were looking to execute a deportation warrant. When the immigration agents approached, Cruz allegedly ran into the roadway in an attempt to escape, and was immediately struck by a motorist.

Police say the motorist suffered a minor injury from the broken glass that shattered, as the windshield of the car was crushed by Cruz's impact. Even though he was injured himself, Cruz continued his attempt to flee, but was apprehended by the ICE agents before being taken to Danbury hospital to be treated.

Aside from the deportation, the previous assault charge, and the previous disorderly conduct charge, the accident investigator from the Danbury Police Deparment issued Samuel Coctecon Cruz an infraction for reckless use of the highway by a pedestrian.
