Police: Danbury Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery, Resisting Arrest
A Danbury man has been arrested on a series of charges in association with an attempted robbery at a local business.
According to a press release from the Danbury Police Department, officers responded to the report of a robbery at Valentin Travel located at 24 Elm St. at about 7:30 PM on Monday (March 12). When police arrived, an employee of Valentin Travel described an intense scene in which a man came through the door, jumped over the counter, and demanded that the cash register be opened.
At that time, the frightened employee was able to escape the building and ran outside, as the man was trying to force the register open. As she was making her exit, she said she could hear the man yelling for her to provide the key and threatening to kill her. The employee then reportedly yelled for help, and was assisted by a bystander on the street. That's when the would-be robber is believed to have come outside after the employee, but ran off when he noticed she had help.
While the suspect was able to flee the scene before the Danbury PD arrived, officers say that through surveillance video of the attempted robbery, he has been identified as 39-year-old Daniel Christopher of Danbury.
The report says that investigating officers set up surveillance of Christopher's residence and waited for him to come home. When he was confronted by officers later that night at around 10:00 PM, Daniel Christopher reportedly resisted arrest and had to be forcibly apprehended.
Christopher was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery, threatening, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 22.
