No one is a stranger to the flu, but the number of deaths this season in Connecticut because of it is staggering.

There was such sad news state wide this flu season by the loss of several youngsters with symptoms related to the flu virus. In January we shared this news:

Then, just a month later, came the report of the 6-year-old Norwalk girl who tragically passed from the nasty strain.

Now, in a report from the Connecticut Department of Health, while Connecticut public health officials say the peak of flu season is now over, they are also reporting that there were seven more flu related deaths just last week in the state. That brings the number of flu related deaths in Connecticut this year to 119.

While nearly all of those that passed away due to complications from the influenza virus where over the age of 65, three where 18 or younger. Public Health Commissioner Dr. Raul Pino has this to say:

The positive news is that we appear to be past the peak of the flu season. This however, does not mean the season is done. We still have several more weeks to go, and I continue to urge people to take precautions to prevent contracting or spreading the flu
