According to a release from the Newtown Police Department, it’s officially that time of year again—high school seniors are gearing up for “Senior Assassins,” aka one of the most chaotic, creative, and honestly hilarious traditions kids take part in before graduation.

If you’re not familiar, the game is pretty simple: seniors team up, get assigned a target, and try to “eliminate” them using water guns. Last team standing wins the pot. It’s part strategy, part paranoia, and part “you can’t even check your mail without looking over your shoulder.”

And look, the police aren't here to ruin the fun—they actually acknowledge that this has been going on for years and, for the most part, it’s all in good spirit. But they are reminding everyone that sometimes things can get a little… over the top.

For example, they’re asking kids to stick with water guns that clearly look like water guns. No realistic-looking stuff that could freak people out. Also, gel blasters are off the table—those can actually hurt someone, which kind of defeats the whole “fun game” vibe.

There have also been some overly dedicated players in the past—blocking driveways, chasing people a little too aggressively, even creeping onto private property trying to pull off an elimination. That’s where things can cross the line from funny to not-so-great real quick.

So the message is pretty straightforward: go have fun with it, be creative, enjoy the game—but use a little common sense. Nobody wants to win “Senior Assassins” and end up explaining it to a police officer five minutes later.

Bottom line—this is one of those classic senior year memories in the making. Just keep it smart so it stays funny.
