According to a recent article from The Independent, there are 12 cities in the U.S. that stand out for walkability — and New Haven is one of them. Yup, right here in Connecticut.

New Haven gets a lot of attention for Yale, but honestly, the real magic is that it’s the kind of place you can actually enjoy on foot.

You’ve got the campus, museums, theaters, bars, and coffee shops all packed into a walkable downtown. And then, of course, there’s the pizza. Around here it’s apizza unless you want a lecture from a local. Frank Pepe’s and Sally’s are the heavy hitters, but there are plenty of spots where you can walk in and walk out with one of the best slices you’ve ever had.

That’s the beauty of a walkable city: you don’t need to plan around parking, traffic, or whether your car’s going to cough up another surprise repair bill. You just wander, eat, and enjoy.

And honestly, that’s the dream for me. Nothing makes my blood pressure spike like my cars. I used to love driving, but it’s turned into a conceptual money pit: car taxes, flat tires, oil changes, registrations, license renewals, random busted parts… every time you fix one thing, something else breaks. It’s endless. Walking? Walking never needs an oil change.

Congratulations New Haven, there is one for the plus column.

Also on the list were San Francisco, Boston, Beverly Hills, Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Orleans, Chicago, Seattle, Alexandria, VA, St. Augustine, FL, and Savannah, GA.

Wait, New York City didn't make the list? Now I'm upset.
