New Study Shows People are Fleeing Connecticut in Droves
Connecticut. It turns out, a lot of folks are saying goodbye and heading for greener—or maybe just cheaper pastures according to a new study.

According to data published by United Van Lines via MSN, a whopping 63.5% of their moves involving Connecticut in the last year were people leaving the state, not moving in. That’s a pretty strong hint that something’s up. And it’s not just them saying it—Bloomberg did their own deep dive into U.S. Census data and came to a similar conclusion. So yeah, this trend is real.
What's the reason? Connecticut is insanely expensive. The state popped up more than once in surveys of the most expensive places to raise a family. Add in the lure of jobs and better retirement options elsewhere, and you get a truly wild number like 63%.
We've heard local officials say school enrollment is actually on the rise, which might sound like a silver lining. But when you zoom out and look at the overall population, the numbers tell a different story. Connecticut has been losing people steadily for a few years now—and unlike some states that are bouncing back, there's not much sign of a reversal here.
Couple of things:
- Go.
- Please go.
- Please leave.
Look, I’m not gonna lie, it’s expensive here. Personally, I struggle with how pricey everything is, but I’m not leaving. I love it too much. So, my wife and I are doing what a lot of folks around here do: working way too much, shuttling our kids all over the place, and performing the classic stressed-out Northeast juggling act. We're just trying to survive while pretending we're thriving.
That said, and I mean this from a place of love — if you're even thinking about moving to Myrtle Beach or Florida, I beg you: please, kindly, respectfully... GET OUT OF MY WAY.
Seriously, what are you waiting for? You could already be golfing with new friends who aren’t nearly as interesting or fun as the ones you have up here. Your wife could be running a charming little souvenir shop selling seashells and discount beach towels made in Taiwan.
You could be there right now, letting extended family crash at your house for free "vacations" while you silently seethe from the lanai. Don’t let responsibilities or common sense hold you back. You deserve to be out there, sacrificing your epidermis piece to the relentless Florida sun, slowly transforming your skin into something that resembles peppered beef jerky.

And hey, there’s no time like the present to pick up new hobbies — like wrestling alligators or perfecting a Southern accent that sounds suspiciously Creole and deeply confusing to everyone you meet.
So go ahead. Embrace your destiny. Chase those sun-drenched dreams. And most importantly… clear up some space on the highways and housing market for the rest of us who are stubbornly staying put.
He's waiting for you....
Not enough droves are fleeing. There are still way too many people on I-84 and in line at Shop Rite, let's get these numbers up. Next year, I want to read that 91% of Connecticut residents have left.
