Middletown Bids Farewell To Metro Movies After 27 Years
When was the last time that you left the confines of your home to enjoy a movie on the big silver screen at your local movie theater? Yeah me too, and another permanent surprise closure is making us movie lovers sad in Connecticut today.
The Metro Movies 12 Theater located in downtown Middletown at 140 Main Street in the Metro Square Plaza shut it's doors for good this past Monday. The 12-screen movie theater had been in operation for 27 years before the sudden social media announcement of 'Metro Movies 12 is Closed. Thank you to our incredible community for years of movie memories.' Yet another permanent closure in the six years since the pandemic that most thought was the end for movie theaters overall.

I live in Torrington, which still has the Apple Cinemas in town, but the drive-in theater in Barkhamsted was taken away in the past five years, and recently I saw a social media post from the owner of the Gilson in Winsted stating that he had recently explored the option of selling the business, but the plan of action was to hang in there as long as they could.
If you still enjoy the slate of entertainment that moviemakers are pushing out, it's truly time to get out and support your local movie house. I love going to see shows at Bantam, the MovieHouse in Millerton, Southbury's Riverview 8, and Apple Cinemas in my hometown. The news that got me this morning? Jackass is coming back this Summer. I'll be in the theater for that one, if there are any left.
