According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, a little road rage can lead to some big trouble—especially if you’re a Pennsylvania man trying to take a leisurely drive on I-95. So, let’s unpack the recent escapade involving one Kelvin Abreudy Segura Tejada, who apparently thought that bringing a firearm (allegedly) into his tractor-trailer was a good idea while barreling down the highway.

The press release says:

"On Friday, 10/18/2024 at approximately 6:01 PM, Troop G in Bridgeport received a 911 call from an individual reporting that the operator of a white tractor-trailer had brandished a firearm at them while traveling southbound on I-95 in Bridgeport. The caller indicated that the truck was approaching exit 22 at the time of the incident and provided a description of a decal they observed on the rear of the truck."

Picture it: an average commuter trying to navigate the hellscape that is I-95 and, a white tractor-trailer appears, complete with a threatening display of firepower. It kind of makes me think we should suspend our tourism campaign completely.

Troopers quickly got the call and swooped in to save the day. They found the truck (with a Tennessee plate, because why not?) and pulled it over near exit 17. Once the driver, Mr. Tejada, was out of his vehicle, he was swiftly cuffed. When questioned, Tejada allegedly admitted to being involved in some sort of road incident but denied waving around a gun. It’s like saying, “I may have cut you off, but I definitely didn’t mean to honk at you!” However, when asked about the gun, cops say he casually mentioned there was one inside the truck.

Troopers decided to do a little spring cleaning in the rig and, boom, they found a loaded handgun. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t just a decorative piece. After checking in with their pals at the Pennsylvania State Police, it turned out Tejada had no registered weapons and, surprise, surprise—no pistol permit either.

Now, I can’t help but wonder: if we really want to cut down on these “interesting” encounters, maybe we should start charging tolls on our highways. Maybe if out-of-staters have to pay tolls, they won't be able to afford bullets?

So, while Mr. Tejada prepares for his arraignment on November 18, perhaps we can all agree that we need to keep the tourists and the firearms at a safe distance. Because really, who knew a road trip could turn into such a high-stakes game of “don’t shoot the messenger”?

Keep your head on a swivel folks it's extra Connecticut out there.

We talked about this on the Tuesday (10/22/24) edition of the I-95 Morning Show.

Charges Filed Against Tejada:

Carrying a Pistol without a Permit
Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree
Threatening 1st Degree/Displaying a Firearm
