I'm always sad when a unique store in a great location suddenly evaporates. It happened to me in Southbury this week, a newer market that I got used to stopping at for my seafood fix is no more.

I've always loved the shops and restaurants in Southbury's Heritage Village, there's always been a cool new shop or restaurant opening or closing every few years. I miss Friendly's the most, that location was so much nicer than the Waterbury or Naugatuck Friendly's. Anyway, shortly after the Heritage Village Friendly's disappeared on me, Southbury Seafood Market set up shop at 466 Heritage Road. My brother Steve turned me onto the place, and it was a great place to pick up truly fresh seafood, with a variety you can't find at the big supermarkets in town.

Well, Southbury Seafood is no more. On May 10, 2023 Southbury Seafood announced on their social media that after two years in operation, they had decided to close their door, thanking everyone for their support. They announced good news the next day, Hummus & Falafel Mediterranean Cuisine will be replacing Southbury Seafood, and it's still the same owner.

Hummus & Falafel is open for business already, and the menu looks good. There's Hummus & Falafel, of course, beef kabob platter, gyros, chicken Shawarma, a nice selection of rice bowls, wraps, and salads too. I'm happy to see that it's the same owner, he was always nice when I went in. Hudson's Cafe & Bistro and Hummus & Falafel, the new spots in town, but I still miss Friendly's.
