Ducks of Connecticut: I-91 is Not a Good Place For You to Waddle
I love animals, but it's been a rough week for them in Connecticut, and it's not about bears for once. A group of ducks wandered onto a highway in Hartford, and a disturbing story about a poor doggy in Avon made me wince.
We'll start with the good news first, I just received video from the Connecticut State Police - Troop H in Hartford of a heartwarming rescue of a group of ducks that had wandered into the travel portion of I-91 Northbound in the area of Exit 33 - Jennings Road. Multiple troopers responded to the scene on Monday, July 22, and discovered a group of ducks waddling along the highway in the HOV lane. The responding trooper was able to stop traffic and guide the ducks across I-91 into an area of long grass. Unfortunately, later on that afternoon, the ducks wandered back onto I-91 a second time. Responding officers called in Hartford Animal Control, who helped assist with the relocation of the ducks to a much safer area, far away from the highway.
If you need more semi-good animal news in Connecticut, wfsb.com reports that a one-year-old Lhasa Apso survived either jumping, or being thrown out of, a vehicle in Avon on Tuesday, July 23. The poor one-year-old pup suffered a broken pelvis, but Avon Animal Control and Avon Pet Pantry have teamed up to accept donations to help pay for the surgery, and some much-needed follow-up care. All I need now is to see a bear in the wild, it's at the top of my Connecticut animal bucket list.
