We can all agree on one thing. Connecticut is expensive AF to live. Whether you rent or own, there's no way of living here for cheap. If you're in the market looking to buy a house right now here, I feel bad for you.

After adding up monthly expenses, I feel like I'll never necessarily be ahead in this economy. Walking out the door is pretty much an instant spend of $100. Gas, groceries, basic items to live, it's all so expensive. All of that had me thinking, what is the average salary here in Connecticut?

Zip Recruiter posted that the average salary in Connecticut is $66,045 per year which averages out to $32 per hour. Talent.com shows that is a take home pay of around $48,720. Looking at that number, is that a comfortable salary to live in this state?

People say that if you don't have kids and only worry about yourself, you can easily get away with that salary in Connecticut, but I don't know if I necessarily agree. The median rent in Connecticut is $2,000 a month, according to Zillow. That alone is already half of your take home salary for the year without including anything else. Granted, if you live with more people, your rent can vary, of course.

What I found interesting was a CNBC article that shows how much a single person needs to make to live comfortably in each state. Connecticut's salary was $100,381. The article also goes on to say that the national median for comfortably living alone is $89,461. What an array of different numbers. I guess no matter what, the higher the number, the more comfortable you will be. It's also so common for people to have multiple jobs now to be able to hit those "comfortable" salaries so that they are able to make ends meet.

Zip Recruiter also showed the Connecticut cities with the highest salaries and I thought it was interesting to see.

  1. Hartford - $82,997
  2. Bridgeport - $81,702
  3. Stamford - $78,148
  4. Wilton - $73,855
  5. Saybrook Manor - $73,450
  6. Westbrook Center - $72,944
  7. New Haven - $70,001
  8. Fenwick - $68,132
  9. South Coventry - $67,782
  10. Greenwich - $66,152

Hm. I know those numbers are based off of jobs, but I would've expected some places to be higher than others. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the average salary in Connecticut is livable?
