Study: Connecticut’s Veteran Care Rating Could Not Be Worse
Normally, I have no problem sharing bad news but this message is painful to relay. Smile Hub recently conducted a study to see which states care most about their veterans and the news for the Nutmeg State is ugly.
Smile Hub examined a variety of factors to make their list that included:
- Highest/Lowest Share of Veterans
- Most/Fewest Veterans Charities Per Capita
- Highest/Lowest Total VA Expenditure Per Veteran
- Highest/Lowest Share of Veteran Owned Businesses
- Lowest/Highest Veteran Unemployment Rate
When all the numbers were crunched, the Constitution State was dead last, ranked #50 in the nation. Our neighbors in New York ranked #29. Here are some of the reasons we landed at the bottom;
- Connecticut was in the bottom 5 for fewest veterans charities per capita (46th in US).
- We had one of the lowest total VA expenditures per veteran (48th in US).
Top 10 Most Veteran-Friendly States:
10. Oklahoma
9. Alabama
8. North Carolina
7. Maryland
6. Illinois
5. Pennsylvania
4. South Carolina
3. Texas
2. Florida
1. Virginia
I'm OK with making the odd mistake but this is not one that we should keep making. Now more than ever we need to be thankful for the unbelievable freedom we enjoy in this country and that luxury cost our veterans more than any of us can ever understand. Next time you see a vet in Connecticut be sure to let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifices because it appears our state is not holding up their end of the bargain.
