Connecticut Parked Car Damaged, Reddit is Helpful, Also Not
This Connecticut Reddit post brought me oodles of joy. It's a case study in how consulting a large group of people can be helpful and unreasonably hurtful all at once.

A CT Reddit user that goes by InebriousBarman shared a post to the Connecticut Reddit page that goes like this:
Someone hit my car and left while I watched. Police said they'll do nothing.
Someone's kid opened their car door into my parked car while when I was about 10 feet away (Gymnastics pickup). I yelled about it, and the lady already in the driver's seat starts backing out and says: "She didn't hit your car." through the glass at me. Basically, I could only read her lips. Then she drove away. I have her license plate because I took a picture of the crappy parking job she did, thinking it was comical. My car has a noticeable chip in the paint. I called the police in the town where it happened, and they said to come into the station the next day to get the report filed. I did that, and the officer gave me a salad of excuses why he couldn't do anything.
- It's private property.
- They Gymnastics place doesn't have cameras, so I can't prove anything.
- She can just say she didn't do it.
None of that makes sense to me. My property was damaged. It took a very long time to get the officer to take the report and get him to understand that he is not the person who determines what is true. That's what a judge does. Though he absolutely assured me that this person's contact information will not be in the police report. The damage isn't enough to involve insurance, so how do I find out who the person is to hold them accountable? (I would have forgiven it all if there was any notion of accountability by this woman, but there wasn't.)
At first, her post gained some sympathy. Many people shared similar experiences, others criticized the police, and overall, it seemed like everyone was on her side. But then, as always, Reddit did what Reddit does.

"The title reads like this was a hit and run the cops won't do anything about. The real story is so so sooo much less... substantial. A legitimate dent in the door would be more fitting of this post than a paint chip. The bait-and-switch title is misleading at best and intentional obfuscation at worst."
Honestly, in many ways, this post was far worse than just calling the OP hurtful names. DarkBluePhoenix hit her with the "obfuscation." I have to throw a flag for unnecessary use of enormous words while scolding another adult like a small child AKA UUOEWWSAALASC. I mean, that is a Seth Milchick word. Why not tell her to devour feculence while you're at it? DBP, you were extra right there, you don't need to kick someone when they are down (passing an errant car door swing off like it's a deadly hit-and-run).

A needlessly complex word for a simple idea, apologize for the word DBP.
