Connecticut in Top Ten of Greenest States in 2025, Study Says
As we approach Earth Day a new study has just been released that ranks Connecticut in the Top 10 of the Greenest States in 2025.

Do you believe that we're breathing in cleaner air than most of our neighboring states? How is the quality of our drinking water or soil? Does Connecticut use more renewable energy than we import? Turns out we conserve our environment better than most of the country. According to WalletHub.com's Greenest States in 2025, Connecticut is the 10th 'Greenest State' in all of the US this year.
How did WalletHub.com come to this conclusion? They did their research, which compared the 50 states across three key dimensions: Environmental Quality, Eco-Friendly Behaviors, and Climate-Change Contributions against 28 key metrics regarding our environment, some of which were: Air Quality, Soil Quality, Water Quality, Gasoline Consumption, Renewable Energy Consumption, Commute Times, and Recycling Efforts.
Connecticut did well overall according to WalletHub.com, landing at #10. Our air quality ranked at #18, Soil Quality at #26, Water Quality, and Energy Consumption per Capita at #9, and #17 in Gasoline Consumption in Gallons per Capita. No area of the country comes close to New England and the Tri-State area.
Who beat Connecticut in greenness? Our Northern neighbor Vermont came in at #1 and has been named the most environmentally friendly state of 2025. Rounding out the Top 10 between Vermont and Connecticut were Hawaii and New York at #2 and 3, Maryland, Maine, and Minnesota, California, Massachusetts, and Washington. The bottom of the list? As usual: Kentucky, Louisiana, and West Virginia.
