Does it take a Long Time to Sell a House in Connecticut?

Thinking of selling your house in Connecticut? You might need a little patience. A new study from Cash for Home looked at over 2 million listings and found that nearly 34% of homes in the state are still on the market after 30 days. That’s over 4,300 properties just sitting there waiting for a buyer.

Compared to faster-moving states, like Mississippi where homes fly off the market, Connecticut’s pace is definitely on the slower side — ranking 10th in the country for longest time to sell a home.

Top 15 States Where Homes Take the Longest to Sell:

  1. Oregon – 45.77%
  2. Ohio – 41.50%
  3. Massachusetts – 39.44%
  4. Rhode Island – 38.66%
  5. Indiana – 37.80%
  6. Illinois – 36.36%
  7. Maryland – 36.22%
  8. Minnesota – 34.43%
  9. Michigan – 34.21%
  10. Connecticut – 33.78%
  11. Nevada – 33.77%
  12. Wisconsin – 33.52%
  13. New York – 33.19%
  14. Pennsylvania – 33.14%
  15. New Jersey – 33.01%

That’s bad news for me. A lot of the people hoping to sell their homes are the classic “I hate Connecticut” crowd. You know the type—they started planning their move to Florida at 22, and now they’re 60, still here, and always in my way on the highway or holding up the line at the pharmacy.

I don’t have a problem with anyone wanting to move—it’s just never that simple. These folks rarely just pack up and go. Instead, they spend 40 years here bitterly reminding everyone how much they hate the state (even though that’s not really true). They vote, they clog up the roads, and they leave passive-aggressive comments like “who cares?” on community Facebook posts.

Honestly, we should help them leave—buy their beautiful houses and speed up the process.

SIDEBAR: If you write “who cares” on a community Facebook post, you might be the lowest form of life online. How do you not realize how much that screams you care? Everyone else sees it.
