Commerce In Southbury Plaza Is About To Rise Again
I wrote a blog the other day about the last Kmart in Connecticut closing down by the end of the year, and it started me thinking about what potentially could be going into the space in Watertown in the future. In Waterbury, Dick's Sporting Goods is gearing up to open in the former space of Toys R Us.
The Kmart in Southbury shut down almost two years ago in 2017, and it was pretty dormant for quite some time. Recently though, activity has really picked up, and there has already been a couple of announcements as to what is coming into Southbury Plaza. The first retailer officially named to move into the renovated Kmart space is Old Navy. The other recent announcement is that The Paper Store will be moving into the space formerly occupied by Dress Barn.
Construction is also going on the Western side of the former Kmart facing Talbots, the building will be converted to 5 retail spaces overall, 3 in the front, and 2 on the side in the photo I took above.
From what I can see, the crews are very hard at work, and it wont be too long before more store announcements come our way, just in time to get us all fired up about the upcoming holiday season.
