NYC Teacher Arrested, Accused of Stealing $8K Worth of School Supplies
"What am I gonna do with a gun rack?" The words of the character Wayne from the movie Wayne's World came to mind right away when I read this story. In the iconic, comedy, Wayne's ex-girlfriend Stacey gives him a gun rack. Wayne says: "What am I gonna do with a gun rack? I don't even own AH gun, let alone many guns which would necessitate and entire rack."
According to the NY Post Sherran Fields, 44 was working at IS 59 Wednesday in Queens, NY when police arrested her and charged her with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Authorities say they have her on surveillance video stealing roughly $8,000 worth of school supplies.
Why did this story make me think of that line from Wayne's World? The two situations could not be more different and yet they have something very important in common. Like Wayne wondering about the gun rack, we all need to wonder what the hell she's going to do with thousands of dollars worth of school supplies?
Could a person actually turn a profit from school supplies on the black market? Wouldn't the effort necessary to "fence" these types of items turn a person's life upside down? If the retail value is $8K you are going to get no more than $3K on the streets and over what period of time? I hate to point out the obvious but this criminal enterprise she allegedly has going is at best, a really lowing paying side hustle. Just get a part time job at Subway. You "Eat Fresh" at a discount and could probably pull down an extra $12K.
Are you mental?
